Stop the EU’s Ban on common sense “Meaty” Words for Plant-Based Foods

WePlanet Petition

The EU is trying to ban the use of everyday words like burger, chicken, sausage, and even ribs or breast on plant-based food labels

This makes no sense. Nobody is confused by “plant-based chicken alternative” or “vegan sausage.” In fact, these terms help people know how to cook and enjoy sustainable alternatives. Taking them away will only create confusion and slow down the shift to healthier, climate-friendly diets.

So if this ban is not about protecting consumers—who is it protecting? Could it be protecting the interests of the meat lobby? It looks like politicians are trying to use EU law to make life harder for innovators and consumers who support change.

Courts and parliaments have already rejected similar bans. Consumers are perfectly capable of telling the difference, and they don’t need EU politicians policing words on packaging that cause no confusion.
